The Office of the Dean for Student Life coordinates a comprehensive set of programs and services designed to enhance Simmons College undergraduate and graduate students' educational experience. The Student Life Division includes the Office of Athletics, the Counseling Center, the Health Center, the program in Health Education, the Office of Residence Life, the Office of Leadership and Student Activities, and Spiritual Life.
Information on Simmons College policies, procedures, and academic and social programs is available through the Office of the Dean for Student Life. The staff in the dean's office administers the following programs: undergraduate orientations, international student advising, domestic exchange, ALANA student advising, Dix student advising, retention programs, assessment programs, advice on leaves of absence and change of status, and other issues of interest and concern to students.
The program in Multicultural Affairs in the Office of the Dean for Student Life is committed to supporting the academic, personal, and social success of all students at the College. Programs and services specifically designed for students of diverse racial, religious, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds and for students who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgendered are offered. We are dedicated to the promotion of a campus community that appreciates, encourages, and celebrates diversity. As a part of this effort, we provide a variety of services, programs, and referrals that complement, enhance and support academic life. We promote cultural awareness and appreciation of cultural diversity and foster intercultural and cross-cultural understanding through collaborations with various student organizations and college departments.
International students may schedule appointments with the dean for student life to discuss issues related to INS regulations, visas, and Curricular and Optional Practical Training (OPT). Cultural and educational programming is planned through the Office of Leadership and Student Activities. Students interested in learning more about extracurricular programming for international students should contact the Office of Leadership and Student Activities.
Dix Scholars are encouraged to visit the Office of the Dean for Student Life for support throughout their Simmons experience. We recognize that the experience of a Dix Scholar may be complex, and that there may be times when a Dix Scholar needs assistance in navigating through her student experience. We offer specialized programs and services for Dix Scholars in support of academic and co-curricular success that include community town meetings, question and answer forums, and extracurricular programs in conjunction with the Dix Scholars Student Association. While all staff in the Office of the Dean for Student Life serves as resources for Dix Scholars, Raymond Ou, Assistant Dean is the primary contact for Dix Scholar issues and concerns.
Students are welcome to schedule appointments to discuss specific issues of interest. Evening appointments are available for the convenience of students who may be unavailable during business hours.
